Evan was originally diagnosed with Stage III, Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) on June 22, 2008. His tumor is located in the parameningeal area of his head, in the paranasal sinuses near the right temple.
From June 2008 until August 2009, Evan was treated with 28 rounds of IMRT (radiation) and 52-weeks of chemotherapy. He enjoyed a brief three-month remission and on December 1, 2009 we learned his cancer had relapsed in the original location. On December 31, 2009 Evan was schedule to have endoscopic endonasal surgery in Pittsburgh only to discover the tumor had grown too large in three months to have the procedure. Since then, Evan has undergone several months of a phase II chemo, as well as a phase I chemo trial in St. Louis — both to no avail.
In May 2010, Evan made history by becoming the first participant in the phase I HSV1716 virus trial in Cincinnati. We are praying this will prove to be his cure.
